TAKING BODY MEASUREMENTS PART 1
Hello friends,
If you have gone through my introduction to fashion pattern drafting 101 write up, you will be wondering how do i get the exact body measurements to draft a garment pattern?
so in this series, i am going to explain how to get the almost perfect body measurements and the various measurements needed for the various pattern bodice
First, we need to understand the human body parts and how to place our tape measure. Few rules also applied to taking accurate measurements, they are as follows:
- ensure your the person is wearing light clothing and no shoes
- ensure the person is standing on a leveled floor, relaxed, no bending and head straight throughout
- hold the tape measure snugly around the body and not tightly
- do not use stretchy tapes and record as you take the measurements
- for length-wise measurements, let the tip of the tape start from the nape of the neck and go across the bust to where you want it
Measurements needed for a basic skirt bodice:
- Skirt Waist: this is the roundness of the waist (ask the person where she puts her skirts)
- Hipline: this is the distance from the waist to fullest part of the hip
- Hip: this is the roundness of the fullest part of the hip (round the but)
- Front Skirt length: the length of the skirt from the waist at the front
- Back Skirt Length: the length of the skirt from the waist at the back
# See you next time where i will be giving details on the other basic bodice measurements requirement.
